What Is Children in Need about?Children in Need is a charity event hosted by the BBC and is held on a yearly basis to help raise money for Comic Relief, an English based charity aimed at bringing financial and emotional aid to children all over the world experiencing problems such as abuse at home, poverty, physical or mental disabilities and much more.Children in Need was first started in 1927 in the form of a 5 minute radio broadcast appealing for money, the event was then first televised in 1955 and was called “The Children’s Hour Christmas Appeal”, it was then turned into a telethon in 1980 and was presented by Terry Wogan, Sue Lawley and Esther Rantzen. Since Children in Need’s first telethon Terry Wogan has always presented the event free of charge in order to show his support for the charity event and its mission of “positive change through the power of entertainment”. When is Children in Need?Children in Need is being held on the 18th November 2011 and despite the starting and finishing times not yet being released it is expected that the broadcast on BBC One will start at either 7.00pm or 7.30pm. The broadcast will continue until 10.00pm when the 10 O’clock news shall be shown for half an hour which will result in the rest of the show being played on BBC Two when the News starts until the end of Children in Need. The Televised event is currently being predicted to end at 2.00am the following day.
Children in Need focuses on helping children in the UK aged 18 years old or younger who currently live in poverty, in abusive homes, suffer from depression, have physical or emotional disabilities and much more. |
