Remembrance Day

Remembrance Day (also known as Poppy or Armistice Day) is a day dedicated to the remembrance of all of the mend and women who died in World War 1, however it has recently become a day to remember all of the men and women who have died during service for the United Kingdom. Remembrance day is held on the 11th of November at 11am as that was the official date that World War 1 ended. Since Remembrance Day began it has had a iconic symbol of the red poppy due to the Poem "In Flanders Fields" by Wilfred Owen, a famous war poem from World War 1. The poem refers to the red poppies that grew on the battlefields after a battle had ended and represents the blood that had been spilled.

It is common place in England to partake in a 2 minute silence at 11.00 in respect of those who have died in service for their country, however this was originally meant to only last 1.11 seconds to represent the date of the end of World War 1 but it was extended to 2 minutes for simplicity. The start of the 2 minutes silence is marked by the playing of "The last Post" and is ended by "The Rouse". Many old soldiers also visit their childhood schools in order to pay tribute to their childhood friends who have died in the wars, wreaths are also placed on war memorials and the majority of the British public wears a Poppy on their lapel in respect.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

In Flanders Fields - Wilfred Owen

Official Michael Jackson Fancy Dress & Tribute Tours

Since Michael's death his family have been planning a tribute tour in order to pay tribute to the super star. The tour has yet to be named and little detail is known about the official event, however it is planned to be an unusual event in the way that it is completely spoken word and does not involve any singing. The event will instead include close family members of Michael talking about previously unheard of stories about Michael and his amazing life.
Also planned is an unofficial Michael Fan Fest where fans will be able to see never seen before memorabilia and other famous items and outfits that he wore including his iconic jewelled gloves. The event itself will be held in Las Vegas so many fans in the United Kingdom will not have the opportunity to go to this one time event held on the 3rd - 14th December, for more information go to http://www.michaeljacksonfanfest.com.

If you're attending one of these great events or just want to pay tribute to Michael Jackson and his family why not take a look at our Official Michael Jackson fancy dress costumes and accessories.
